Skincare starts with ingredient: AHA and BHA

noticeme aha aha Step 3 of the Korean skincare routine is exfoliation. AHA and BHA arevexfoliants. A scrub also exfoliates the skin, but only your top skin surface. AHA and BHA penetrate deeper into the skin. AHA stands for Alpha Hydroxy Acid. BHA stands for Beta Hydroxy Acid. AHA and BHA firm the skin and stimulate collagen production, but they are not the same. We explain what AHA and BHA are and why you should add both to your skincare routine.

What is AHA?

AHAs that you often encounter in skincare are, for example, glycolic acid and lactic acid. Glycolic acid is more effective than lactic acid, but if you have sensitive skin, lactic acid is better. AHA ensures that your skin renews faster by loosening dead skin cells. The result is an even, fresh and healthier looking skin. AHAs renew the skin and at the same time retain moisture and therefore also suitable if you have dry skin. It's important to use an SPF when using AHAs as your skin will become more sensitive to the sun.

What is BHA?

If you have oily skin, acne or blackheads, BHA is more suitable. BHAs dive deep into your pores and are able to clean them extra well. In addition, BHAs have an anti-inflammatory and antibacterial effect. BHA in skin care is also called salicylic acid. Unlike AHAs, salicylic acid does dry out your skin, so it's important to use a moisturizer afterward. Using an SPF is not a must as with AHAs, as BHAs do not loosen the skin cells.

Why should you add AHA and BHA to your skincare routine?

Your skin can renew itself very well, but help is always welcome. Many people do benefit from the use of AHA and BHA. The removal of dead skin cells and deep cleaning of the pores not only ensures a smooth and even skin, it is also suitable for use with various skin problems. You can think of dull skin, flaky skin, acne and fine lines. A good exfoliant counteracts all this and ensures that your other skincare products work more effectively, such as your toner, serum and moisturizer. Anyone could use AHA or BHA or even combine both.

For example, K-Beauty brand Some By Mi has developed a special line with both AHA and BHA as an ingredient. Meet:

▪ AHA, BHA, PHA, 30 Days Cleansing Bar
▪ AHA, BHA, PHA 30 Days Miracle Toner
▪ AHA, BHA, PHA 30 Days Miracle Serum
▪ AHA, BHA, PHA 30 Days Miracle Cream
