Skincare starts with ingredients: Vitamin C

Your skin has to endure a lot every day. As soon as you step out the door, you are besieged by all kinds of harmful factors such as air pollution, UVA and UVB radiation. Hormone fluctuations, inflammation and bacteria can also cause considerable damage to your skin. Therefore your skin deserves a little extra care, so that you can start the day fresh and fruity every morning.

Vitamin C is one of the most scientifically researched ingredients in the cosmetics world. This fabric has a whole laundry list of beauty benefits. For example, it stimulates the skin's own collagen production, which leads to a firm and smooth skin.

What does Vitamin C do?

Vitamin C acts as an antioxidant to repair and renew skin cells and give the skin a healthier look. It also helps produce collagen, which binds the cells of our body.

It stimulates the synthesis of collagen to give tighter, firmer and less saggy skin. It also restores and regenerates skin, to help it repair itself quicker. Vitamin C can even protect you from the sun by counteracting the sun’s harmful effects and thickening the dermis layer (although it’s not a replacement for sunscreen.)

What should you pay attention to when adding Vitamin C to your routine?

Vitamin C only works in high concentrations. To find out whether there is enough in a product, you can look at the ingredients list: Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid) must be listed at the top, or at least be found in the first 1/3 part of the ingredients list.

Vitamin C is also sensitive to light and air. When exposed to these factors, it becomes oxidized, which is less stable and less efficacious. It is best to close the lid tightly and store it in a cool, dark place to prevent oxidation.
