NoticeMe Team Guide 10 steps

How the Korean routine works

The Korean 10-step routine is not a fixed ritual, but a flexible sequence that lets you cleanse, hydrate and protect your skin in depth. You layer lightweight textures from thin to rich, adapt individual steps to your skin type and leave out anything unnecessary. At NoticeMe, you can find suitable K-Beauty and J-Beauty products from Korea and Japan for every stage.

All 10 steps explained clearly

1. Oil cleanser

Start with a cleansing oil or balm to dissolve makeup, sunscreen and excess sebum. Massage onto dry skin, emulsify with a little water and rinse off. Oils are gentle because like dissolves like. Choose lighter oils for oily skin and richer balms for dry skin. At NoticeMe, you will find a wide range of formulas – shop oil-based cleansers.

2. Water-based cleanser

The second cleanse removes water-soluble residue and sweat. A mild gel or foam cleanser with a pH of 5 to 6 helps support the skin barrier and does not leave your skin feeling tight. Use lukewarm water and massage briefly. Double cleansing gives you a deeply clean base and helps the next skincare steps work better. You can find more practical tips here: Double Cleansing: the Korean method.

3. Exfoliation

An exfoliant smooths the skin, removes dead cells and helps active ingredients absorb better. Chemical exfoliants work with acids: AHA such as glycolic or lactic acid refine dry, dull skin, BHA such as salicylic acid works deep in the pores for blemishes, and PHA is especially gentle and hydrating. One to three times per week is enough - do not overdo it to avoid irritation. Skip other strong actives on the same evening and always wear sunscreen the next day.

4. Toner

A hydrating toner balances the skin and floods it with moisture so everything after it performs better. Choose alcohol-free formulas with soothing and hydrating ingredients such as Centella, green tea or hyaluronic acid. Apply with your hands and pat in gently. Optionally layer two to three thin coats if your skin is very dehydrated.

5. Essence

Essence is the heart of many K-Beauty routines: a featherlight, high-performance hydration layer that supports the barrier and boosts radiance. Typical ingredients include ferments, snail secretion filtrate, niacinamide or hyaluronic acid. Apply one to two thin layers and pat them in. Essences soothe, hydrate deeply and prepare the skin perfectly for treatments.

6. Serum or ampoule

Serums and ampoules target specific skin concerns with concentrated actives. Layer a maximum of one to two products per routine and monitor how your skin responds. Apply either to specific areas or across the whole face, then seal in with moisture. Not sure about the difference? Ampoule vs. Serum – what is the difference?

  • Blemishes: BHA, tea tree, propolis
  • Pigmentation: Vitamin C, niacinamide, arbutin
  • Dryness/barrier: Hyaluronic acid, ceramides, panthenol

7. Mask

Sheet masks give your skin a hydration boost in 10 to 20 minutes. Gently pat in any excess afterwards instead of rinsing it off. Sleeping masks seal everything in overnight and are ideal two to three times a week if your skin needs more comfort.

8. Eye care

The eye area is thin and sensitive. A lightweight eye cream or gel with caffeine, peptides or retinal can help reduce puffiness and soften fine lines. Tap on a small amount before your face cream without rubbing. Cooling eye patches work well as a quick refresh.

9. Moisturizer

The moisturizer step locks in hydration and protects the barrier. Choose gel or emulsion textures for combination to oily skin, and creamier formulas with ceramides and squalane for dry skin. Keep it lighter during the day and a little richer at night. Find the right moisturizer for your skin type.

10. Sunscreen

Sunscreen is essential and the most important anti-aging step. Use a broad-spectrum SPF 50 every day, even when it is cloudy. Depending on your preference, choose chemical filters for ultra-light textures or mineral filters for very sensitive skin. Use the standard amount rule as guidance – the 3-finger rule for sunscreen. Reapply during the day if needed, for example with a stick or spray. Modern K-Beauty formulas combine high protection with pleasantly lightweight textures. shop sunscreen.
